More High End Luxury Penthouse Condos Hit The Market In Chicago

Late last week I posted on the most expensive Chicago home ever listed – the 89th floor penthouse unit in the Trump Tower listed at $32,000,000. However, within a week of this unit being listed 3 other over-the-top penthouses have hit the market.
1/2 the penthouse at 1/4 the price
Just 6 days ago penthouse unit 87A in the Trump Tower went on the market at $7,500,000, listed by Chezi Rafaeli, the same agent that has the 89th floor penthouse on the market. At 6850 square feet it is roughly half the size of the 89th floor penthouse but at a bit less than one fourth the cost. It has 4 bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths, and 3 fireplaces but the listing indicates no parking. The monthly assessment for this unit is $6624. Here is the MLS description:

Trump Tower: Half floor 6850sqft unit offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the Chicago skyline & Lake Michigan from 1,100 feet in the sky. Chicago’s most sought after address features 16 foot floor to ceiling windows. The new owner will enjoy the opportunity to build out the unit to their specifications and the possibilities are endless. Enjoy Trump’s 5* amenities including 24hr room service & world class spa.

This unit has been on the market twice before, listed at $8,384,400 and $9,642,060. It is currently the 4th most expensive condo on the market in Chicago. You can see the floor plan for this unit and others on my Trump Tower profile page but the only photos available are essentially a subset of the view photos from the 89th floor penthouse listing.
Buy Vince Vaughn’s Penthouse/ Hugh Hefner’s original Playboy quarters
On the top 3 floors of the Palmolive Building Vince Vaughn’s triplex penthouse has just gone on the market for $18,400,000, which makes it the 2nd most expensive condo currently on the market. At 12,000 square feet this luxury condo has 5 bedrooms, 4 full baths and 4 half baths. The monthly assessments are $11,595 and the property taxes are $42,772. The unit comes with 3 garage spots and the added distinction of being previously owned by Vince Vaughn and containing Hugh Heffner’s original office since this used to be the Playboy building. Here is the description from the MLS:

SPECTACULAR 12,000SF PH ON THE TOP 3 FLRS OF INFAMOUS PALMOLIVE. ONE-OF-A-KIND CONDO LIVING THAT FLOWS LIKE A SFH. 1 FLR FORMAL ENTERTAINING; 1 FLR INTIMATE FAMILY QTRS. TOP FLR INCL SCREENING RM, BILLIARDS/GAME RM, HUGH HEFNER’S ORIGNAL RESTORED “PLAYBOY” OFF, KITCHEN AND ENTERTAINMENT AREA, AND HUGE TERRACE – PERFECT FOR AIR/WATER SHOW. EXQUISITE FINISHES. BRTH TKNG VIEWS OF LAKE/CITY. STUNNING RESIDENCE IN THE SKY

Interestingly the listing makes no mention of the current famous owner. There are no photos available for this listing other than the exterior shot shown at the top of this post.
The 3rd most expensive condo in Chicago
And only one week before these 2 penthouses hit the market The Pinnacle’s unit 4501 at 21 E Huron was listed for $7,900,000. With 6,000 square feet of space this unit contains 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, 2 fireplaces, and comes with 3 garage spaces. The monthly assessments are $5208 and the property taxes are $57,724. Here is the MLS description and there are actually photos of this one so I’ve created a slideshow below:

Like nothing you have seen–owners spared no expense in creating the ultimate full floor penthouse residence with renowned architect. Outdoor space like nowhere else: two 1000 SF terraces + mult balconies. Unobstructed views in every direction! Unbelievable quality throughout–including exotic woods, rare textiles, state-of-the-art electronics/automation, & 1500 bottle wine cellar. Three prime garage spaces included.

So what’s the deal with all these luxury properties hitting the market at the same time?
