About a week ago I posted on Ann Lurie’s Mansion that had just gone back on the market and her plans to also sell her Gold coast condo on East Lake Shore Dr. Originally I was going to just update that post when the condo listed but that was a week ago and you’ve moved on since then. The condo – unit 1W at 189 E Lake Shore Dr – just hit the market yesterday, priced at $6 MM even.
Here are some of the particulars, along with the description from the MLS and the interior photos:
- 5000 square feet
- 3 bedrooms
- 4 1/2 bathrooms
- 2 garage spaces
- No fireplaces
- $3,378 monthly assessments
- $38,638 property taxes based upon an assessed market value of only $2.17 MM
Contemporary 2 lvl maisonette situated in a premier East Lake Shore Dr bldg w/rare lake & tree views. Renovated to perfection thruout, this home inclds a state-of-the-art Bulthaup kit w/a La Cornue range. Bamboo hdwd flrs, oversized wndws, & expansive areas for entertaining. Sumptuous mstr ste w/luminous skylight, sitting rm & gracious wardrobe + a luxurious bath w/solarium. Exclusive full service bldg w/2 car pkg.
Ann never actually lived in the condo – despite the fact that she spent several million dollars on a gut renovation that included smart home automation. The photos below show a much more contemporary dwelling than the mansion but, frankly, all the rooms look the same to me with what look a bit like Shoji room dividers.
Note that this unit has always been listed as a maisonette, which I believe simply means that it has it’s own separate entrance, though that is not apparent from the listing. It’s a first floor unit, that duplexes down to a media room and wine cellar, and has a ground level view of the lake and park across the street. It’s not clear to me if this is a bonus or an albatross. Anywhere else in the city this would clearly be an albatross but this is probably the nicest street in the city and it doesn’t get a lot of foot or automobile traffic – except when the street turns into a zoo during events like the air and water show.
Also note that once again the rich and famous don’t pay enough property taxes.
