Located centrally just 20 miles west of Chicago and with easy access to Interstates 88, 290, and 294, and home to some of the worlds most recognized brands such as McDonalds, Oak Brook is one Chicago's most desirable suburbs.  With just under 10,000 residents, Oak Brook is a home to many C level professionals in addition to hockey players, mobsters and physicians.  It is known for its large lots and for having the lowest property taxes in the county.  Residents pay no municipal taxes, so purchasing a $1mm home in Oak Brook would come with a tax bill of around $9,700 in annual property taxes versus Hinsdale where the annual property  taxes would be around $14,700 assuming the assessor placed a $1mm market value on the property.  Oak Brook is home to Oak Brook Mall that gets nearly 100k in visitors, EVERY DAY.

Oak Brook was incorporated into a Village in 1958 and today there are around 3,200 households in Oak Brook.Today’s buyers who want a gated community have several to choose from with top notch amenities such as tennis courts and swimming pools.  Although Oak Brook does not have a typically community feel due to its collection of disconnected subdivisions, there is a strong sense of community within each of the various subdivisions. Each Oak Brook neighborhood is its own community with an active homeowners' association and community events.

Oak Brook Elementary Schools

Oak Brook has its own school district, District 53, which includes Brook Forest Elementary School (grades K-5) and Butler Junior High School (grades 6–8). Students that live within the district attend Hinsdale Central High School, district 86. However, some residents of the village are within other DuPage county school districts, attending schools in Elmhurst, Downers Grove or Villa Park.

Oak Brook High Schools

Oak Brook kids are split between Hinsdale Central (Hinsdale) High School District 86, Downers Grove North (Downers Grove), York Community (Elmhurst) and Willowbrook High School (Willowbrook).

Oak Brook Activities

  • Oak Brook Center shopping mall, which opened in 1962
  • Sports Core - “The Core” includes a golf course, driving range tennis courts, a swimming pool, wading pool, and widely known polo field.

Oak Brook is built out, so the only new houses here are on tear down sites (75 in the last five years) or the occasional dividing of a large estate.

Midwest Club

Midwest Club is one of Oak Brooks most desirable area as it features a gated community containing about 220 homes all set on lots that are at least a half acre and some as much as an acre.

The Midwest Club was originally built in the 1980's and many homes have gone through gut rehabs or complete tear down.  As of early 2012, homes in the Midwest Club subdivision of Oak Brook were selling at steep discounts.
