Sheridan Park Neighborhood, Chicago 60640

3 bedroom 2 bath Uptown condo

Sheridan Park is a sub neighborhood of Uptown and is located in the area bounded by Lawrence on the North, Montrose on the South, Broadway on the East and Clark on the West.  Because of the curves and winds of the streets the neighborhood is narrower on the South side than on the North side. The neighborhood of Sheridan Park was named after a railroad station which no longer exists. Sheridan Park is conveniently located near Lake Michigan, the friendly confines of Wrigley Field as well as a short ride to Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan.

Sheridan Park is filled with vintage single family homes which are generally pretty large.  Most of the homes in the area are chockfull of hardwood trim and window benches and many have fireplaces.  The area also has a large number of multi family dwellings including courtyard buildings and six flats.

In 2007, because of the large number of single family homes along Dover Street remaining from the early 1900’s, the area was registered as an historic district. Graceland Cemetery has been around since the mid 1800s and today it’s one of Chicago’s most famous cemeteries now home to Marshall Field and Louis Sullivan.

The area is mostly residential and the business district is along Wilson Avenue.  Sheridan Park is also home to Truman College, a city college.  It is easy to get around with access to the CTA red line on both Wilson and Lawrence.  In addition, CTA buses run along the major streets.  Sheridan Park has a walk score of 97 according to walkscore.com.

There is plenty to do both at night and during the day. Carol’s Pub is a popular spot for Karaoke and is open until 4 a.m. Magnolia CafĂ© offers elegant and contemporary American fare and is Sheridan Park’s most popular restaurant. Sheridan Park is also home to the historic Aragon Ballroom which was built in 1926 by two brothers, for an unheard of cost of two million dollars (considering the price of admission was only 90 cents). The Aragon was designed to replicate a Spanish palace courtyard with its crystal chandeliers, mosaic tiles, terra-cotta ceiling and beautiful arches. Over the past 80 years, the Aragon has provided a place for dancing and enjoying music.  Today, the Aragon hosts host a variety of Hispanic shows as well as English language rock concerts and also hosts large private and corporate events.

There are lots of outdoor activities in Sheridan Park because of its close proximity to Lake Michigan.  There are beaches and parks, bike paths and volleyball courts.  The area even includes the Susan Kimmelman Off-Leash Dog Beach, where the dogs can play in the sand and water.
